Resin over resin

Quick question, if I need to sand a layer of resin down before adding another layer, what grit should I sand to?
Oh, it’s clear poly resin.

is it a waxed resin or is it still tacky?

I usually rough them up with a few quick passes of 80 grit, depending on how thick the layers are before the material.

It’s waxed. Sorry, this is just hypothetical. I was wondering what grit scratches would be hidden by the next layer of clear resin.

resin will cover most scratches that do not have foreign dirt/grit in them. The one thing I notice is when cutting multiple layers of waxed poly is that the top coat is much more likely to chip is added after tackyness has disappeared.

I’ve seen the same thing too. Must be cuz the bond between layers is more mechanical than chemical.

Sand with too fine a grit and it chips off, so I was wondering how rough you can sand and not have the scratches show through.

i’d think the thicker (wider valleys) the scratches the easier the liquid would fill them.
