Hey guys, when i infused something awhile back, i forgot to metioned why something happened. I notice that the carbon pattern on the showing nice side looking a little diff from the rest of the carbon. These were the spots where the inlet resin lines were. i now place the resin lines outside of the part but still, ive seen people place them right in the middle. what gives?
put a bunch of flow media under the line to give it a little buffer
^^^What he said.
My guess is that the vacuum bag is pulling (pushing?) the line down further ‘into’ the part…resulting in a very minor distortion in the weave in the shape of the line. More flow media will spread out the pressure over a larger area, resulting in a less-pronounced effect.
baz offered a good suggestion sometime ago that works well.
If I can paraphrase-- sandwhich flow media with layers of peelply to act as a cusion
Or, just raise the resin line up off of the part before you pull vacuum. Then, apply vacuum- but leave your feedline unclamped. Push the feed line down onto the part and then clamp your feed line. (It will be easy to do because there is not 100% vacuum yet) This will leave a little “slit” or “pocket” above your feedline. After your part is infused, and you line is clamped, grab the line and slide it back into your “pocket”. (It will be easy to slide up because the resin makes it slippery).
Kinda hard to explain, very easy to do. Been doing this for years. No chance of an imprint from the feed line.
