Resin infusion video >>Questions

here is a vid I found on the web, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bzi-IMiu_J0

My question is regarding the close up shots, it appears that there is a tom of air bubbles being pulled through the resing toward teh resin front. Am I seeing it correctly? I though that the air was replaced by resin as the resin from moved? Am I wrong?

that is my video, the resin I used creates a gas and that is it traveling through the front of the infusion. When the infusion was complete I had no air in there

here are a couple more

I was moving too much in this one

Excellent thanks for clearing that up. Do all resins do this, what was it about this one that caused the volatile compounds to come out(other then the obvious vacuum:D )?

Those two other vids are great! is that really all there is to it, other then setup? seems straight forward. Do you have any other vids? Any with the setup included? I have seen both the hood infussion vids.

What does the part look like right after it comes out of the bags? what follows after it is out? Trimming/Clearcoat?

I keep thinking of more questions to ask
Thanks.

not all resins will do that. I don’t use that resin anymore. Those are the only vids I have so far. We gel coat in the molds so we just pop, cut, shape, wet sand, then buff

DualTwill…

1)How much vacuum are you pulling before you release the clamp on the resin inlet tube? What does your vacuum set up look like… picture please

2)Also on the bag… do you make your own bags or do you buy them? How do you seal all the openings in the bag?

3)Is there some type of film or material that goes between the bag and the dry lay up?

4)Do you use any spray adhesive to hold your cloth down and in place?

5)What brand and type of resin & hardener do you use and at what ratio (ie: 1.2% hardener)?

  1. How long do you leave the lay up pulling vacuum for? 3, 4, 8, 12 hours?

  2. How long do you wait to remove the part from the mold?

Lots of questions!

and i was going to ask same, lol

doesnt the vacuum pump that is pulling the resin in and through the mould not then collect all the resin?

You use a catch tank like a modified pressure paint tank to catch any resin pull over. Saves the pump.

ahhh thanks, was thinking there was something somehow in the line before the pump itself, i hope to get this setup soon, what hardware is required? I just need to make a good mould and find a good release agent for it.

sorry also one other question,i saw in another infusion video that they add the mould release agent a few times then a gel coat, what is this gel coat and where can i buy it?
