Resin infusion, complicated shapes - how do you stop weave distortion?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on working around tight angles and complicated shapes without distorting the weave?

Im going to have a bash at making motorcycle fairings out of carbon fibre using resin infusion. Iv been advised by the company that supply my materials to use multiple pieces of carbon accurately cut for the top layer, however this is going to be time consuming and id rather it be all one piece as it looks better.

Iv attached a picture of one of the parts im going to attempt to make.

Thanks

Your biggest challenge will be bridging. Perhaps that is why the supplier advised to do it in smaller pieces.

To prevent distortion of the first layer, very lightly spray it with spray glue (Airtac2, Ce-Sense Resin Infusion Spray Glue) then glue a lightweight cloth behind.

If you going to have a " bash " why try with somthing abit more simple to start off? That could easily be don in one peice whos your supplyer? Easy composite by any chance ?

Iv got my clear spray adhesive on order :), I have tried just the spray adhesive on fibreglass and it works great, I was just wondering what other people do.

Yeah im going to do my rear hugger first which is a much simpler shape. lol im buying from carbon mods but i think there the same company. Youve had dealings with them then by the sounds of it?

Use the spray glue LIGHTLY. Did I already mention that? LIGHTLY it is. Not heavy, but LIGHLTY. Just a LIGHT mist is more than enough.

There customers service is ok there products are expensive, resin is bought an renamed as there own and carbon mods parts are average lol

That part could be done easy peasy with one peice depends how well you mold it
