Repairing chipped mold

So I have a 3 piece mold and one of the edges chipped. The chip is at an internal part of the mold where the 3 pieces come together at what is roughly a Y shape.

would it be ok to rough the are and then join the 3 parts and then fill in the chip with some more tooling resin? The mold is semi perm released.

To be sure, I would wax the area on all 3 parts, with regular wax, then grind and prepare the chipped area, then assemble moulds and fill with tooling gelcoat. Depending on the type of tooling gelcoat, either make sure your amount of resin is exact, or slightly overfilled, so you can sand and polish.

The wax application helps removing spills and creating a neat edge with the repair.

RC51,
I have had to repair similar chips in some of my molds after a high production run… it sounds like you’re on track and the way you are thinking of handling it would be correct.

I agree with Herman’s technique… release your parts very well and then grind and prep just the area needed for repair leaving the remaining surfaces released after your gelcoat or resin repair application.
