HELP! I’ve used Hysol 9396 under velcrow and ontop of Kevlar(3 plys
plane weave) and have cured squeeze-out which I didn’t catch when I
should have. any ideas how to remove without destroying the kevlar.
thanks!
Hi Dan,
Can you explain the “squeeze-out” part further? I am having a hard time trying to understand what the problem really is. Anyway, this might be vauge or off point but there isn’t any kind of dissolvant that you can use to undo what you did. Yes you can remove something by cutting it out or sanding it down and redo that section. The problem with that is you will lose the strutural integrity of the part doing it that way. Usually when I mess up, it’s best just to start over. It gets expensive but it’s still better than wasting time trying to fix something that I know isn’t going to be as good as it’s supposed to be.
Hope that helps,
Evan
Hi! Evan
squeeze-out is as you can imagine the excess epoxy that comes out
when two parts are clamped together. The problem is that it looks
bad or unprofessional. I Think I will protect the area and sand as you
suggested. Thanks for the help.
Ok Dan I understand now. So basically you just have excess resin. My suggestion for your next try would be measuring the amount of resin used. I always measure the weight of my fabric and then use the same amount of weight for the resin. If you’re using a sandwhich mold, I would also recommend doing it this way:
Mold - breather - release fabric - fiberglass - release fabric - breather - Mold
That allows your the breather to soak in excess resin and the release ply just peels off afterward preventing the breather to bond to your layup.
Good luck,
Evan
