Releasing pre preg tubes

I will be making a couple of pre preg carbon 60mm ID tubes 2.7m long from aluminium mandrels which is no problem to do this much but I am more concerned about releasing them if they do not just slip off?

I know that the professional tube makers probably use hydraulics etc but I do not have this so I am looking for any tips on getting these off easily?? Or any special mould prep that could help.

Please let me know your experience with this.

Heat the tubes and laminate up while curing as hot as possible, freeze the tubes at as cold as possible, and pull out. The aluminum CTE is much higher than the carbon, so when you are curing the aluminum tube will expand, after cooling down from cure it will contract but probably too tight still. You can freeze it to allow for more contracting. You might still find that you will have to use a bit of force. Make sure the tubes have no defects.

I understand this basic principle with the mandrel expanding and the cured carbon remaining the same size as expanded mandrel.

My oven is only capable of about 110C and I don’t have a freezer long enough if needed.

Make a trough from some bagging plastic and Few bags of ice might do the trick

Do some tests on smaller diameter Ali tube ( from bunnings ) and see how it goes.

Cheers

Tim

Good idea with the ice trough, I think that can be done if needed.
