release wax applied with polishing mop?

Eve all, I have seen on t`internet that a chap used a powered polisher (the type used for polishing up car painwork etc) with a foam mop head to apply release wax to a plug. Is this common practice? Only I have a rather large buck almost ready to take moulds from and wondered if this is a better way to apply it?? Does it get into the microscopic pores in the surface with the heat generated from the process?? previously I have done it all by hand and had good results. Thoughts?
My buck has been painted with 2k black, flatted and polished to within an inch of its life.
regards Chris

Personally i wouldnt use a polishing mop for release wax. Polish your body buck by hand and dont be afraid to put more coats than less on. Especially considering the time and effort that you have gone to on getting all the shape spot on and and such a good surface finish.

Why dont you post some of your pics of your project on here, I know that there are several people on here that would be very interested in seeing some of your pics. I have been following your flickr photostream for quite some time and I am always awaiting further updates!

Thanks Matvd, I suspected that would be the answer, looks like a week or two of waxing is in order!
I can put a few pics up, not sure what section but am sure the “mods” will put it in the correct one!!
regars Chris

you can use a power polisher to get at a metal mold, using whatever the standard abrasives are normal…fastest way to a mirror shine!!

I’ve seen it done as well but I still worried that using a power tool on a surface i was going to mould, that it might cut into my precious perfect surface lol. Ecspecially as you said you have worked a lot on it, I know tools may be quicker but I’m too paranoid one little slip and I’m back to polishing my surface again, I’d rather spend the extra time to start with personally, and as canyon said don’t hold back on the coats… However that’s not the case with semi perm mould release, once when I was making a 2 piece sealed mould I gave it 6 coats, laid up one side to finish, went to flip her up and gel the other part and the pattern just fell out of the mould 0_o !!

The way I was taught is finesse, not force  although I’m more a fan of the latter sometimes!
