Release Ply vs. Peel Ply

I’m using the vinyl peel ply Werksberg sells. It actually leaves a nice cosmetic finish once peeled off. It has a very slight texture that disappears under 4 coats of clear coat. I lightly sand the raw peel ply surface with 400 wet paper, dry it, then clear coat… looks great.

Now on release ply, i have never tried using that before. It sounds like I would be better off using release ply for these cosmetic parts. Can i infuse with release ply?

Release film won’t really infuse, and there’s a good chance you will end up with wrinkles.

NYLON Peel Ply (what I have been selling so far on here & eBay) will leave some texture but lays down smoother.

Release films are like Scran wrap (works better on Pre-pregs) and wrinkles just looking at it which will bridge on those wrinkles…FastRR, You want some?

heck, no thanks Werks  I’ll keep using this awesome nylon peel ply.

Airtech suggests using release ply B for infusing, but i have used that stuff and it leaves such a sandpaper-ish 80 grit texture it’s ridiculous and ugly. I could hear my customers complaining about the backside finish if i used that stuff. Plus i wouldn’t like it either.

Vinyl peel ply…i’ll keep using it  I love the nice pattern and how easy it is to clearcoat over it.
