Red and whtie material

Gentleman,

I will make a silly question, because here in Greece the Carbon Fiber Products for DIY projects is still at palaeolithic season (small country, small market), so:

In most carbon fiber project I see a lot off equipments and especially the red and white cloth, example of “BazNos”:

or

Can, anybody help me here what exactly is that product and why we are using it?

Thanks in advice.

george, the white material is a peel ply, this is placed directly on top of the carbon in the mold. The resin does not stick to this. The red material is a flow media as its name suggests it alows the resin to flow easier whilst under vacuum due to its net like structure. It actually holds the bagging material off the surface a small amount which aids the resin flow. When the infusion is complete and the part has cured in the mold the peel ply, flow media and bag can be easily remomoved leaving a clean resin/carbon surface.

One more point don`t use the flexible bagging material for infusions as this will suck down in between the netting and completely ruin the resin flow.
