Recommend me a pump

Budget of around $1000us

11CFM 15 microns

12cfm 15 microns

These are the two i like at the moment but thought i would ask the question if anyone has any recommendations on witch one to get or one i may have overlooked.

I have 3 Gallon degassing chamber and pump will be used for vacuum infusion/vacuum bagging

Buy a secondhand high end brand like Edwards, Pfeiffer, Alcatel, Leybold, ect. A refurbished one is even better.

What size jobs will you generally be doing?

The jobs will be anything from a flat sheet at say 1.5M x 1M to car panels like bonnets/boots/doors and so on.

Pretty much redoing the aero on my race car

Cool mate, what kind of race car?

Just FYI, a pump of around 4-5cfm and about 5Pa/35 micron will be more than capable of your requirements.

Once full vacuum is reached, there is no difference between a high CFM or low CFM pump, as it is only scavenging at that point. Even a 4-5cfm pump will pull down a 2m x 1m bag on flat sheet in around 1 minuite, and pull down to a very high vacuum suitable for infusion in around 5 minuites.

While a bigger, stronger pump is almost always better, in that it will pull bags down faster - there is a massive price differential between the two sizes.

Unless your a professional doing many parts per day or you plan on building 40ft boat hulls, both of those pumps are overkill!

Not trying to rain on your parade - just thought you would like to know!

Cheers.

Thanks for the advice Elitec,

The way i see it, a lot of the stuff i have is overkill for what i need, but it leaves me with the room to expand if i choose to.

I have also been shown people using the one pump and doing two items at once and so on (appealing to me if i want to do a flat floor)

the Race car is nothing much ATM just a bare shell but it started its life out as a Japanese D1 drivers drift car it is a JZX81 toyota mark 2 i enjoy grip racing so turning it into a time attack/club race day car.

and well Aero plays a big factor in where i want to take the car

Sounds like fun!

Yea, naturally aero has a huge impact on any race car - weather people believe it or not!

I still say you would be surprised what a little pump can do, but for sure there is no harm in buying bigger and stronger if you can afford!

I operate the new online sales department at Elite Composites http://www.elitecomposites.com.au/. We have not listed any vacuum pumps as yet - but will in the near future if you are interested.

Pretty keen to see the reborn monster take shape!

Cheers,

Phill
