Really Big Vacuum Film

This is more of a random question than anything else but I’m certain someone here can answer it. Where does one get large widths of vacuum bagging film. The biggest I’ve noticed for sale on regular end user websites is 5 feet. I know Airtech makes custom bags but I’m wondering where large projects (car bodies) and huge projects (airplanes) get their film from.

hunt down a composite mag, or SAMPE journal…i think there are companies that seam them together for large sizes. That is normal, since you can’t get infinite size film.
I think in a bind, you can seam them together with tacky tape.

I had to make a bag recently that was 6 mtrs wide, and 7mtrs long, it was a comedy side to move! Had to cut open 1.5 mtr tube film and join with tacky tape, its an expensive way to make a bag tho!

DIATEX made 3.5meter wide and it`s 1000% elongation

Dang! 3.5 meters!
I’m probably going to be doing at least 3 large scale projects in the course of this year so all these nice materials will help. Especially since I’m basically going to have to do this myself.

I believe richmond aircraft has 120" V-bag(opens to 240"). Contact www.nfgsales.com they can help you

Go to a Hardware store and get a semi thick plastic film (for covering parts when painting- these are 4m x 5m) cut it as you wish and use double sided tape to make it an envelope.

This approach is risky. I saw a club on campus try to use it and they got disastrous results. The bag had more leaks than the Titanic. Even with vacuum film I hardly trust myself to seal it all the way around with tacky tape.

Even though it’s more expensive I feel like well handled vacuum film is the way to go.

Is that 3.5mtr envelope or 3.5mtrs when opened out?

Just looked at it and its not a particually high temp film, only 125 deg c

I would assume that the stretchier it is the lower temp it can handle in general

You’ll get the one in a sealed package, not from the roll. The sealed is hole-free

Or even better, just get the right material! It’s a lot cheaper than scrapping parts.

Sure!!! but if there is such a right material…what are we talking about???

Real vacuum bagging film! Not cheap plastic sheet from home supply stores.
