why would unidirectional carbon explode?? now you are scaring me, I have a small roll of that stuff in the attic.
all the fibers are in one direction, so ALL the strength is in the 0 direction. Once you start pulling, and it fails catastrophically, it will do it with flair! If you have a woven, here are many other variables that give it some strength after some of the 0 tows start failing, be it the 90 tows, or the matrix, or both together. I might have a video somewhere…thought I uploaded it once on here.
