Race car hood pictures....

I thought I’d post a picture of a Fiat X1.9 (I know, I know…what am I doing with a Fiat part…) race car hood I made for a Fl. ACVW drag racer (see, it is powered by an ACVW engine…:)) which will see 150 mph at the drags soon:

OK, it was getting really late after class and I left some resin rich ares over the PER foam strips…I was dead beat tired at that piont.

This was done using PER grey gel coat, 1x layer of 1 oz FG mat, the perf. paper core material (do not fully wet it out but just enought to fasten the core mat to the FG mat), a single layer of 10 FG cloth and them some triangle strips of PUR foam with the ends beveled back too and a single layer 10 oz FG cloth just over the strips to hold them in place.

After removing this first time part from the mold, I found out that the center was a weak area…I looked at it and thought it would go up and be stiffer…not, it went down and was weak.

So after this shot, it went back into the mold, I added a strip of the core material in the center area and covered that with 10 oz. cloth too.

The hood ending up real lite but very stiff! Customer was very happy (I was told he slept with it the first night he got it…) and the class got $150.00 for new supplies!

if you could guess the weight how much would you say it weighed?
