Quick Question

When infusing, do you leave the vac on!? doesnt the resin then start sliding to one side when you clamp the resin off… doesnt it start to run towards the vac ?? then theres more resin on 1 end.?

i usually always leave my pump on till it gels. If you don’t time your resin right then yes you will start sucking it into the pressure pot

I learned this from perfeng…I cut my resin off when I have about 80% of the part wet out and let the vac pull the rest of it.

It helps to not have a bunch of crap going up your line and you having to throw away alot more line or cleaning out your pressure pot.

I leave the vac running because I dont want to waste the time making sure I can hold vac for 20 minutes. I can make a lot more money in that time than a pump will cost me.

It also helps to have vacuum reserves (extra tanks for vac)

All in all I think my vacuum set up cost me…about 5-600 bucks.

OH AND DONT CUT YOUR VAC OR LOSE VAC BEFORE ITS GOOD AND B STAGED…OR YOULL SEE HOW THE LAST LAYER YOU PUT UP BECOMES AN AIR BUBBLE ON THE BACK OF YOUR PART!

and what happens if your not around to see it b stage and leave it alllll night long?

Why not have a soleniod switch operated from vac line, that automatically switches vac pump on if vac level goes below a certain amount? Seems silly to have vac pump working when its not needed!

I’ve left my pump on all day a few times with no harm done. My bud leaves his pump on all the time. He can have up to 20 bags going at once, so it’s easier for him to just leave it on.

I think the only thing it hurts is your electric bill and longevity of the pump.

Someone posted on here or another site about Air Logic Vacuum control switch model # V-5100 and they are only $15.00.

Joe Woodworker sells them for $25.

Vac control switch sounds ideal, and in combination with something like a large propane bottle (empty of course), as a vac tank, would mean vac pumps would live longer, as they wouldnt need to be running all the time for no real reason.

i really don’t care about the pump lol

They are so cheap compaired to my other materials, I might as well leave it on till it B stages. I have left mine going over night countless times because I had to leave for something. My first robinair pump went down 2 weeks ago. This one I have been using for 2 and a half years

agreed!

I need one of those switches for sure!

I have reseve tanks in line already…I used portable air tanks from harbor frieght (the ones for emergency tire inflation and what not)

two 10 gallon tanks and the pressure pot.

the pressure pot was spendy compared to everything else.

+1

Thats how my setup works (for bagging or infusion). It runs for about 1 minute and then shuts off for the 12 hours of curing. It might run twice over that period if there is a small leak.

Why not use empty propane gas bottles? They can be found for nothing, come with good quality taps, and 2 linked together would provide more than enough vacuum for most projects.

it was easier to find these…propane tanks are hard to get here in the states…they think youre going to try to sneak more propane in them.

They have gone to a different handle / valve and you can’t get the old one refilled…even if new! Ask me!

You might be able to pick them up at a garage sale or Propane refiller stating to them that you are going to use them for vacuum…
