hi everyone …
I was planning to make a front lip for my car as shown in the first 2 pictures from left, however, most people complain about the lips breaking very easily and I was wondering what would be the best materials to use? would sandwiched divinycell (1/8") with carbon be more impact resistance than plain cf with no core (3rd pic from left) ? how about core with cf and Kevlar hybrid reinforcement ?
another issue (if i use core) is that I want the front edge to also be the reinforcement and not the foam itself … which method is better to achieve that? is it possible to make a mold with round edge and vip the part in one shot or is it better to lay up top and bottom pieces separately and then bond and compress it over the foam (this way both sides could be shiny)…
I am all ears to your advise…
thank you
Bryan
Is the lip you are trying to make that flat piece in the middle picture?
In anycase, if you want impact resistance I would definitely put some kevlar in there.
When I made my front splitter I used a combination of fiberglass, kevlar, and a divinycell core. I would have used carbon, but I know my piece will eventually get destroyed so I went with teh cheaper S glass.
What you need to do with the core is cut it so that it doesnt go to the edges of the part. At the same time, for a small cosmetic piece like that, I wouldnt use a core.
