Hey guys, does any one make the same part eveyday? Cuz I see tons of posts for the hobbiest, but not so much for the production lines. Does anyone here do production line work?
Most are hobbist on here but several are reg. production businesses too, worldwide!
Yes.
Limited production, but still the same the thing over and over again.
I run production…not nearly the amount I want but its getting there every day.
Sooner or later Ill be too busy and complaining about that.
here here
I second that
The company I work for does mosly short run production. Like 40 pieces of the same part.
The largest run Ive done was 98 radome covers. All vacuum bagged. Dont recomend it to anyone.
No? I’ll tell my boss.
they want me to do a 4x5’ radome with core.
with no help on HOW to lay it up.
yay.
If you count all the other crap I do around here all day…and how many times we run out of things like sealant tape, and flaskbreaker…
yeah, semi-production, but mostly in prototype mode though.
Made 14 pieces of a reflector, 2 hubs. All ended up odd by a degree or 2, and a millimeter or 2.
Trashed all pieces.
got REAL molds now!!!
just no core fill gun.
screams
Im right there with you on the how do I do this scenario.
Lots of pleats, minimal peel ply and breather overlaps, and flash breaking tape helped me on some of our larger parts. Applying vacuum slowly is a big help also.
A single radome cover isnt all that bad. But by 100 you find yourself wandering and not paying attention to detail.
I can see that. We are doing quartz/CE panels 30"x70". So many weird steps, and such little guide, I seem to forget tiny major things because they are small!
But hey, that is why I get paid…to make it work!
you guys are nerds…i have zero idea of what you both are talking about.
anyone know anything about countertops and floor systems?
I wanna do my garage and some counters…but I cant seem to get any good info.
I so dont envy you. Thats a big part.
The radomes I just finished were max 10" wide. Although the only radome covers I do go onto jets pre-flight.
We have done several parts in a low volume production run. Our chin spoilers are over 150 now and our hoods for a very good cudtomer have gone to the 200 mark. We are nearing 50 on our most recent project of rocker panels.
We are still building tooling on a job that we know will be producing several hundred parts soon. I am taking my time and doing it right. we are making rtm lite tooling.
Just to find someone to help me carry it on it’s side out the doors is hard. I hope to take over the room next to us, so I can open up the door and just cart it out to the oven!
I can’t wait till our next project…a 6" hemisphereical dome…I guess it’s 1/2 of a sub antenna buoy of sorts. It’ll be cute.
