Airtech makes certain release films and fabrics (like Bleeder lease) with silicone and others without. The silicone based products apparently release from the parts easier, but might pose a problem when gluing those parts later. Is this the case? Just how much of a problem is it? Obviously any new surface should be scuffed before gluing, and I might have thought the scuffing would negate the silicone. Is there any chemical that can remove any residual silicone?
This might help.
Interesting paper. Thanks. It appears silicone coated release fabrics severely comprimise bonding strength. Now all I need is the paper that analyzes pre-bonding surface treatments to mitigate silicone’s bonding intereference
What about release films? Maybe I should use a release film instead of a fabric.
Just use a normal peel ply. Youre going around a loop of by getting a silicone coated one. If you are sanding a peel ply surface, it defeats the point of using the peel ply. It’s easier, cheaper and quicker to use a normal release film, then sand. With a normal peel ply you just peel and bond, although you get a better bond by sanding a non peel ply surface.
