Can anyone provide guidance on what release agent to use when vac bagging with epoxy resin in a urethane rubber mold? I am looking to extend mold life as far as possible.
Very tricky. The problem is that epoxy will chemicaly connect to the pu. So your release agent has to prevent that. But your mould is flexible and thats why it can be tricky to get a flexible release film.
I guess sticking with silicone for my molds might be the better option. I was hoping to find something more durable with a higher durometer than the 60a silicone I am currently using.
I use a layer of pva coated with. Layer of Vaseline. I know, I know… Vaseline, is there anything it can’t do!
Um… anyway, it works for me.
Smooth-on and a bunch of other places sells mold release specifically for that purpose. It’s very common as everything needs a mold release with Urethane molds.
