pouder bound CSM, plain weave glass, epoxy resin

Hi Everyone,

I was told today that using powder bound CSM and epoxy resin is very hard to work with due to it being difficult to break down. Has anybody had any experience with this and any tips to make it easier?

Rather than buying CSM and having problems working with it, couldn’t I simply use a woven glass to use as mould backing?

Thanks

I was actually going to mention this recently. I came across some continuous strand mat that doesnt have binder and is suppose to be resin friendly (if that helps). I would like to know if the chopped is definitely a no-go though because some biax comes with it which would otherwise be convenient.

If your gelcoat layer is thick enough to prevent shrink-through, there is no problem in using multiaxials (biax, triax) or even woven.

Also take a look at the rapid tooling stuff, like Nord Composite RM2000, 3000, etc. Polyester based, Tg 115 degrees (RM3000) and quick to make.

hi guys, thanks for the advice  just wanted to make sure before i went a head and did it.

Herman what do you mean by shrink through?

Thanks
