polyester flow coat on top of epoxy mold

the gelcoat on one of my epoxy mold has worn thin and since I don’t want to build a new one I just want to refurbish the gelcoat.
So I was wondering if anything speaks against using a polyester flowcoat which is then sanded and polished.
Why you asked? Mainly because the epoxy gelcoat I used in the past (easycomposites.co.uk) gave me really bad results, also polyester seems to polish better.
Any thoughts? Also I hear of people running into problems pulling epoxy parts from polyester gel coat, is that true?
thanks!

I don’t think that the polyester gel-coat will stick very well.

not even if I sand the old gelcoat down with a 120 or 80?

That will definitely help. Polyester just has pretty poor bonding attributes.

It might work just fine. Maybe someone else out there has had success with this technique.

I have an epoxy mold that I sprayed with poly top coat, and it worked good for about 10 pulls but then small thin areas started to flake off. After that I resurfaced another by spaying the sanded mold with auto grade epoxy primer and then top coat of poly. This one has held up good so far.
