If you make a product using a polester resin without wax in the outer layer doesn’t cure 100%. What I want to know is if the side facing the mold cures 100% and also if having no wax in the resin causes any problems to the finished parts, ie for painting, strength, shrinkage. Also is it just the very surface that is uncured or does it penetrate any deeper into the part?
The resin (gel coat will be the only resin to stay where applied) against the mold will fully cure as oxygen doesn’t reach it. If you are using a lamination resin, it should stay a little tacky / sticky after curing to add later reinforcement layers.
The only PER that has surfacing agent (liquid wax) is surfboard or surfacing resin. The wax comes to the surface to seal off the oxygen so it will fully cure and you sand it easier!
