I know this question has been beaten to death but throughout my various times prepping plugs and making moulds I’ve always forgotten what I’ve used…
My current plug is large enough and I have a lot of prep time in there where the last thing I want to do is mess it up so I’m asking here in advance and if need be I’ll order the item I think may be missing out of the equation.
Here’s the steps
- Plug primed with 2k and sanded with 400.
- Paint with 4th dimensions black base coat, it’s a 2k but only uses the paint and reducer, no hardener apparently.
- Clear Coat
How long should I let the paint dry for in let’s say 80 degree climate? 3-4 days?
Next is the surface prep for releasing. I’ve NEVER used frekote sealant, only the release agent spray stuff. Truthfully I’ve had a few problems in the past but that’s mainly on flanges, and the one part I had no issues with I forget if I used wax and release agent, or just wax.
I’m wondering if these steps would work.
- Spray frekote release agent
- Dolphin wax
