Hey guys. I’ve read of people using pva for almost every surface and not damage it. Even something as porous as wood I’ve heard it used on before. I guess my question is what about leather or vinyl? Has anyone used it for that before or how would you guys proceed?
I am just doing test on a textured vinyl right now with PVA and tooling gel for making a mould.
I’ll let you know when I release it.
Awesome man. Did you use any chemical release agent before hand or did you wax and then pva?
Just wax, PVA, gelcoat and CSM skin so far, no problems yet.
This is the fabric backed type vinyl that get stretched over things for a textured finish. Not the adhesive sticker type vinyl.
Hmm gotcha. Mine I think is adhesive backed vinyl. I just need to be careful with temps and go slower with not many layers then I assume.
Yeh precisely. I’ve taken moulds off the adhesive backed vinyl without issue. Spray the PVA to get a consistent coat, and there will be no compatibility issues. From there all you have to do is ensure that no heat melts either the vinyl or the pva. I wouldn’t go any more than 5 layers of 450 with an RTS, or 3 layers of 450 if you’re using a regular laminating resin.
