Ok I have a project I’m considering trying. The deck would need to be 5’ x 7’ made from carbon. Needs to hold 1,500#. Will only be supported from the corners much like a table. Would you guys layup 2 layers of 10 oz then make a truss system of say 1" corrugates and sandwich them between the layer you made and another layer of 10 oz? Do you think it would need more? Give me your ideas or past projects.
Are you talking about something like this?
You could also make a sandwhich pannel that could support the load. Will it be a constant load? Will there be chances of impact damage? Will the load be spread over the entire surface? Also how do you plan on attaching the ‘legs’ or load points?
As anything it depends on the situation.
Yeah something like that. Load will change. Most the time it will be under 1000#. I added 500 for safety. No impact. Open to any ideas. It’s basically a platform upto 5 people will stand on.
There’s no doubt you could make a composite panel that can support the weight of 5 people though I wouldn’t comment on the layup schedule you proposed in your post. If you are supporting people (not to mention the actually conditions, ie what height the platform will be at)the important things is to define a realistic safety factor, probably in the realm of 3 or 4 to 1. There are plenty of projects that come up here that are perfect for the “that ought to do it” method of building/engineering but things involving the safety of people usually fall in the “lets hire an appropriate engineer” category. You might be surprised how affordable this really is in the scope of the overall cost of one of these projects
