Just started a new job, and this is the first project I messed up on.
Anyone do plaster casting of molds, and have any tips?
I keep getting bubbles in the surface coat, and filling/sanding just will not do. :mad2:

is this a gelcoat faced plaster tool?
Your SPOSED to seal the plaster.
Plaster face, sealed after it’s dry.
I could have made a glass tool from this already. Plaster sounds like a good idea and all, but I just can’t get the surface good.
I think part of the issue is whit how I’m doing this. Face coat is a little thick and I think I should use smaller batches. The hemp used for reinforcement should be patted in more.
I may have just answered my own questions (from trial/error) But I’d just like some input from someone who has done this a bunch.
Were you using a superior Plaster such as Ultra-cal 30 or maybe Hydrastone ?
Other stuff may be inferior on surface finish by quite a bit !
aren’t you supposed to degas/pressure dissolve plaster if you want a perfect surface?
Shouldn’t have to if using the above products. There are also techniques involved to avoid air entrapment. But it is not difficult aside from heavy to handle.
I recall USG being printed on the bag, not quite sure.
First ,Brush a diluted solution of dish soap ,thenbrush on a Dental grade plaster , then your regular plaster. I used this method for making lost wax molds.
Please, do share
Very basic steps.
1)- Stir slowly and do not introduce more air.
2)- Use very clean containers.
3)-Cool clean water.
4)-Pour while still thin enough not to entrap air.
5)-Always pour in such a way to make the liquid rise.( Not run down hill)
6)- Don’t use low grade non-mold type plasters.
