plain weave fibreglass

what is the most common weight of plain weave fibre glass, im making an order and thinking of getting some 163g or 6oz for tool reinforcement and final piece reinforcement, is this the best to get to be used for many applications?

Also what is woven roving?

Thanks
Gareth

What the smeg?

Woven Roving is a heavy plain weave glass that is used primarily in boat building. It doesnt conform well to anything. Its a pain to wet out. Their are some tricks of the trade to work with it correctly, but not worth the time if you ask me.

If your looking for a heavier cloth to use in a layup I would go with something in the 11oz range.

Thats what I was wondering. Wei Wei needs to go Bye Bye.

Wei Wei has and I have seen his posts on other boards too!

Plain weave is woven roving, Google image it. You can get it in different thicknesses, I saw some in Glasplies the other week that looked like you could have made a basket from it! I have an OMP sump guard here that is made from it too.

The lighter weave is nice to work with, drapes very well, but makes for a flexible and not very stiff part when done.

Some people add black colour to the resin when working with it and pass it off as CF.

Naughty naughty…

Im have ordered 300gram woven roving 10metres of it. Will this be strong enough for a bootlid/tailgate and how many layers do you recommend to keep weight down but rigidity up!!

Would i be better using some 600 gram roving or doesnt it matter if i use twice as many layers of 300gram, or does it not work like that?

Thanks John
