Hi I having problems with a suspensoin cap for my car.
I made a mould
I knew getting the pieces out would be difficult but the plug split and cracked.
We put a flage around the cap to make the removal of pieces easier, but Im not not convinced and wish to make a 2 piece mould.
How can I make a 2 piece mould of this?
There are several ways to make a 2 piece mold for your part I’ll start out with an easy plaster mold.
Buy some modeling clay and make a parting wall down the center of the part, put some bumps in it that will act as registration marks. Cover the part and the clay with a film of Crisco or release agent of choice, mix up a nice thick batch of ultra cal plaster (or plaster of Paris) make sure it is thick enough that it stays on the part about ¾ inch thick.
Once that side hardens, remove the clay lube up the parting line and repeat the plaster. Once dry you now have a 2 piece mold. I usually add a couple of layers of paint to the parting line before I lube and do the second half to help as a barrier.
