Picnic table.....

Soon chairs I think, depending on the ergonomics of a mold someone has.
Minwwax Spar PUR top coat, sanded and applied a few times. Some issues, but I don’t care…it’s a table.
The bolts need larger washers or something…it apparently doesn’t have enough strength in the bolt areas!!!

edit: sorry about the first pic, didn’t think about it being sideways.

yeah, it probably could have used some wooden blocks laid up where the bolts were going. That’s cool though, I like it!

Foam or Balsa core?

Pretty awesome table either way.

Holy cow… looks good though. I can’t believe Minwax PUR works for a topcoat!!! Is it the brush on Minwax PUR?

Looks like 2" thick urethane foam core. How many quarts of resin did that core soak up  j/k

I don’t remember how much resin, but it was a bit. The top is actualy very heavy (maybe not compared to something like wood at that strength…but still  )
The core is foam (Webcore)
And yeah, it works…i’m sure if it was sprayed it might be more perfect, or if I spent more time on it…but I was in a rush, and it was at work with crap tools. I’m happy!

Looks great. What weave is that?

unidirectional. some sort of thermoplastic binder to hold it together.

What’s webcore and where do you get it?

I just saw Seibon makes conference tables, kinda small for a conference table imo. and $1,600 !

Before I saw your table… I’ve been wanting to make a small round dinner table. I would make the legs out of steel tubing. I may even just overlay a round wood top with c/f & epoxy. Home Depot has a premade wood round top I like. Just have to get my metal guy to build the legs.

Seibon is garbage. They’re not a composites manufacturer, they’re a fiberglass sweat shop making heavy cosmetic parts. That is all.

But the picnic table looks cool. Just needs some edge finishing.

webcore are long blocks of foam wrapped in a glass braid, then scrimed together with more glass. I got it from the labclean out day…I wasn’t throwing THAT away! (also snagged a full roll of IM7-PEI tape!)

I still want to do something like this. It’s a bunch of thickwalled tubes glued together, sanded flat (thick wall, so when sanding flat, it doesn’t go through the wall…might be filled with epoxy too…i forget), attached to 3 carbon tubes, i think it had 90deg metal elbow, and then the feet were more carbon tubes.
