peel ply/release film

Hi,

I was jus wandering wat the difference between the usage of peel ply & release film is? I will be starting Vacuum bagging soon.

thanks
G-)

Peel ply is a fabric that leaves a texture but doesn’t stick to the part.
Release film is like bagging film, but with a bunch of holes to let air and some resin pass. It leaves a smooth texture and is much more likely to leave wrinkles.

ahh right thanks mate. was just wandering after watching a video why he was using both on both sides of the carbon fabric…now know…thanks

What video is this? That process doesn’t sound right to use both materials AND on both sides!

This is the one, when he is making something out of a mould he uses both i think…:o

This is a darn long video:cool: I think he’s using Nomex core.

So far i have only seen him say he is going to use peel ply. video is still playing…it’s looooooong

Looks like he is using System 3 brand epoxy. expensive stuff. he needs to buy some mold release wedges. I got bored and had to turn it off lol.

Why not post your own video to show this guy and others like him the right way to do things?

that would be a great idea because im using that video to show me how to do it and this weekend im making an airbox, flat scuttle covers and door cards. Then dash during xmas.

No video camera, and i have more important things to do… like earn a living.

its not uncommon to use both bleeder and peel ply in a wet layup. peelply will give a nice even mat finish and better secondary bond, while the bleeder will help control resin content and better airflow in the breather, also makes for removing the breather very easy verse just using peelply then breather. However he shouldnt be using it on a-side, only b-side. though there is a technique to use peelply on a-side for certain applications, infact you can get prepreg peelply… this is a select product video, they are a fibreglast type distro for caraudio fabricators, very high price and not very good products

Maybe you should get hold of a camera, as I am sure your years of in depth experience would be of great help to any newcomer to composite work!
