peel ply question

Right i attempted my first part  its scrap  but to be expected.

The part infused great though since i pulled it out of the mould ive realised that the fabric maynot have conformed to the shape. I say may not as the bag developed a massive air leak about 10 mins afater infusion and could i find it or block it  Any way it going to hang on my wall even though its scarp its still ace  Thanks Everyone for the help/advice!!

Any way the peel ply question. I was thinking that the stuff would not stick to the resin (not sure why i thought this) but ive peeled part of it off the part and the surface underneath is rough and bitty.
Im just looking for conformation really its meant to be like that and what would be the next step sand it smooth then topcoat or leave it rough (it looks awful) and topcoat it.

cheers

pics

the idea of a peel ply is to leave a surface that can be worked with straight away. The surface is in effect ‘scuffed’ for additional laminated or adhesives.

pics

um …no lol. It is proper scrap. to embarressed  (i still like it though) If the next one turns out even 10% better then maybe but not that one, no way lol

that about sounds right, its real rough looking.

so which would i do? sand it or just top coat it.
I know its the none visible side but i still dont want it looking poo

one thing ive learnt is to noy waste time and money on scraps, move onto another test piece

you could epoxy over it, you will get a perfect bond!!

Its going on the wall as is although if my new bits dont arrive tomorrow then i may play with the peel ply side over the weekend just to see the result but advice noted stew 8)

but will it still look rough as dodgy houses if i epoxy/ topcoat over it. Im not after great bonding im thinking final/fished part looks!

(im not sure if im being dumb here  but if the part had come out great then id still have the same problem. I dont think im going to be online until tomorrow night but will slap a bit of resin on there and see what happens)

cheers for the answers you 2 though!!

i just remebered,i already tried this,it still looks shite

 im so glad i logged on thats the exact thing i have going on (the first pic - left hand side) it looks awful and no offence stew but it doesnt look like id want it to, even with a bit of resin on afterwards.

How do i/we fix that horrible rough stuff? anyone?

i quite like the finish :? i cant think any customer would say anything, afterall, its supposed to look like that.i will go and spray some laquer on anothe patch, see wha it does.

 on the top picture (didnt click it was the same part) guess im off to give it a go now then lol as the bottom pic looks nice - sorry for the confusion (that will teach me to read posts with laste haste lol)

bottom pic is the proper gelcoat finish from the mold, not the peelply, that the top picture, god this is getting confusing now lol

soory for the confusion, dont worry about it any more.
Will attempt a new part tomorrow hopefully
