Peel ply and resulting resin finish

Hey,

I have a couple of questions that hopefully you guys can help me out with or point me in the correct direction.

When vacuum bagging, I’ve noticed that the finish that I end up with is usually uneven/rough. I almost want to say that in places where the holes are, on the perforated peel ply, it is causing “cavities” in the resin’s finish. This causes an overall uneven surface that I end up needing to sand or try to fill in with resin.

Is it possible to eliminate this uneven surface finish, or limit it from happening as badly?

Best thing to do is post a picture of what your talking about. Dont need to show the whole part, but just a close up of the area your talking about.

Are you talking about your surface finish, or the back side?
The surface quality of the part obviously depends on the quality of your mold.
The back side finish is determined by your release layer. Peel ply is available in different textures, and there’s also perforated and non-perforated smooth release films.
