Peel Ply again

I used “bleeder lease B” peel ply on these parts i made. The side with the peel ply is uniformly rough in texture, and does not resemble the weave pattern of the 2x2 twill the part is. Is there another perforated peel ply that will peel off and retain the costmetic look of the c/f 2x2 twill? These particular parts would look better if both sides were cosmetic finished.

Werks, will the nylon peel ply you sent me leave a nice carbon fiber look after it’s peeled off?

bleeder and peelply are different. peelply will leave a mat textured finish, and the bleeder will leave a shiny finish, but usually is not very cosmetically pleasing. bleeder should really be used on top of the peelply to control resin content. it will be difficult to get the same finish as a-side on the b-side. you can clear cote after but is alot of extra work

nothing will retain a “cosmetic” look to the b-side of a layup, unless it’s a 2 part mold (like we are talking about with the plate on top and bottom of the panel)
Else, you have to clear coat, and sand smooth, then polish.
You can have a layer of perforated release ply, but that will still be sucked down into the actual weave, and leave a semi-shiney, albeit, rough surface.

thanks for the tips guys

I don’t like this green release film… it leaves a rough uniform texture on the part. It looks like black canvas is the best way i can describe it, not even resembling 2x2 twill. I do plan on doing some sanding and clear coating to the parts i make.

I’ll try this perforated nylon peel ply on this next infusion. I may have a couple yards of green release film for sale here soon. I read up and Airtech says it’s good for secondary bonding. I think it’s chemically coated.

Ok, here is a photo of how the backside looks now. I sanded the cured resin with 150 grit paper, then 320 grit, then clearcoated it 4 times. Looks better, not perfect but it’s gonna have to do.

Couldn’t you use another photo host , I can’t get photo bucket to work!

sorry about that, usually PhotoBucket works. Thanks for posting the photo here ^^

I used acrylic enamel clear aerosol for the job. It didn’t yellow or cloud up at all, but i did wait one week after the part was made to spray on the clear coat. I’m going to try and finish up these two parts today, i’ll post photos when i’m done.
