What do you guys think?
i sprayed a blue pearl in the clear too.
Looks great , I’m a huge wrx fan. I currently make custom gauge solutions for all wrx models. What process did you use?
put on a thin coat of resin to “glue” the carbon down, then bagged them.
after they came out of the bag, just layered on the resin.
after i sanded them down to 400 grit, i clear coated them with an automotive urethane.
Looks great… No wrinkles from the v- bag?
did you add blue speckle in it? the closeups look like that. if so, how does it look in real life, and what did you use?
I think it must be a powder pearl pigment is quite large
Looks good
wow:eek::eek: nice first project! your a natural…
Yeah your a natural! Very nice work. Blue flakes are in clear or in resin?
Yeah, put dry pearl in the clear. I’m really happy with the way they came out.
Nice job. I really like the pearl too. I wouldn’t have thought of doing that
Works better with a wet pearl
What are these additives that you guys are talking about, blue pearl and wet pearl? Are they a powder of some sort you add to the gelcoat and where do you get them?
Im a painter in uk, fully qualified, ata aproved, house of kolor trained, dry pearl is an aditve most amatures add in clear coat. hence the un evan finish, as some pearl is larger pigments than the other, hence the reason a few posts up i spotted it was dry pearl. Dont addit to clear as if you need block it with 2000 you will rub the pearl away. Wet pearl is simply pearl paint in basecoat form. You can add dry pearl to a clear base coat (yes it does exist) then clear over it.
If i wanted a pearl finish id either ad it to 1 coat of clear, then change to a straight clear with no pearl pigment. Or if its a wet pearl i would over reduce it and give it drop or mist coat then clear, this would get all edges and evan distribution.
In now way am i knocking the above work just painting is my trade as you will see in a up coming showcase thread. The finish on the console is very good , would love to see the blue pearl over a blue cloth.
In short dry pearl added in powder for to a clear base( ideal) or a clear coat but needs a good 10 mins stairing ato mix pigment
Wet pearl is a pearl that is in base coat form over reduced and misted on or added to a clear
Hope it helps
Thanks for the explanation Brainstorm. That clears things up.
The pearl was added to the first coat of clear, then the remaining coats, 5 IIRC, were straight clear coat.
Yes but the pearl is a night mare to mix thats why you have big pigment and small, trust me i had to do a full car in it once and the owner insted in dry pearl, its ok for airbrush and touch ups but really i wouldnt use it unless forced
I didn’t realize there were two different kinds (wet & dry) I’ve only heard of wet from painters I talked to
Dry is custom based house of kolor do it
