Engine Covers

Suzuki Front Fender

Bonnet Duct

any chance you can take a pic of a mold? preffereable the small two piece engine cover?

sure, let me get my digital tonight, I would have to discuss with my client about showing pics of the mold. I am able to show pics of the engine covers because they are not going to be sold in the US, and they are already on the market as well. I have been looking into aluminum molds and have one being milled as we speak. It is just an eyelid mold so I can test it out and the person milling them can get an idea of what a bigger project would cost. I am paying $120 for the mold now that is screened into his machine and fully made. I was quoted about $800 for a truck mold if I already have a mold made, or $1900 if they take the stock part and reverse it in their system an mill it, this is with 5 inch flanges as well.

What mold release are you going to use for the aluminum mold?

I have no clue yet, since it is a small mold I was going to play with it, I have not talked with any of my suppliers yet about that, I might not even need a mold release for all I know.

I was going to try Ease Release 200 first. It has great properties for releasing resins from aluminum

Emi,

Any chance you could put me in touch with someone to mill a mold for me?

just call around or stop by some of your local machine shops, The first one I went to offered to up for the task, I bet you can find someone local, if not let me know

Is that Kevlar on the fork mount of the fender? Fooooor strength? Or just looks?

we use kevlar a lot lately where mounting points are, we ould usually just do full carbon and add the kevlar underneath but this looked cool so we did it on the outside. We have been testing a hood design for 6 months now that has a honeycomb core all pre-preg with kevlar mounting points as well. Here is a pic of a very very rough prototype.

Here are also some new stuff we have been working with, I got some aluminized fiberglass pre-preg from china a couple weeks ago and been making some cool stuff plus we are designing some really cool gauge covers that are going to be by a major import brand coming out soon, we have been givin the ok to show some of this stuff

I’m jealous of your job.
What I would GIVE to have a REAL composites job
Thanks for the info. I might try some kevlar soon…
but that 30$ cost of sissors to CUT the stuff kills me :-/

You can get a kevlar shears for half that.

that’s what I was going to say, I have found them as low as $13.00 so far. Don’t really know the quality.

I got a pair of Du’pont shears for $50 and they have a lifetime garuntee. I have a Du’Pont outlet store about a half an hour away and aout every 3 months I give them my used pair and get a new pair for free!

Oh. that is the only price I remember
Dupont OUTLET STORE? I think that, being dupont and all…I would have a freaking FIELDDAY in there!! Worse than a discound liquor store

oh it is terrible, I am using all dupont stuff now because I can get it pretty cheap now

who do u work for emi?

i recognize that hood, its for a 92-95 civic coupe or hatchback.

hood was/is marketed by andy’s autosport, VERY VERY nice hood…prepreg, honeycomb core, light as hell, and strong enough to stand on w/o any support from under WITHOUT any signs of flex…been wondering when it will be released

only other ppl that i know of in the import world that deals with that prepreg stuff is benen…and from what i heard and recognize/see that “andys autosport” hood and the benne pieces have some sorta connection

The new version of the hood we make I can not show pictures of for legal reasons and I can not state for what companies I manufacture for as well. Everything in the carbon business is legal or politics. You would be surprised who is working with pre-preg now in the import business, just a small list for you

and the list grows more every month

yea, key word NOW…i didnt see any prepreg stuff 3-4 yrs ago when the benen hood went into prototype etc…only recently have they started messing with the good stuff

well most of what was said did play with pre-preg then as well, but not for production parts because of the price to manufacture are higher of course, but now pre-preg is lower in price and innovations in it make it easier to handle and to make pieces with as well.

where u located? do u guys deal on consumer level? or only a distro manufacturer level?

We are in Idaho and about 80% of my products I make, I make them for other companies and we also R&D products as well
