I happened upon this forum the other day while doing some searching for good composite sites. About half my life ago I was chasing my dreams of getting into F1 and managed to get as far as working for March Composites, aka Comtec, on the Porsche 90P Indy Car. This was the first all carbon Indy Car chassis and as such it caught the eye of the rule makers (read as the other team owners) and was forced to add a heavy aluminum skin to the chassis. Not surprisingly full carbon chassis were allowed the following year when everybody had one. During this time I met some historical names such as Robin Herd (the H in March Cars) and Gordon Coppuck, designer of the McLaren M23 notably driven by James Hunt. More info on the 90P here; http://8w.forix.com/march90p.html

I have recently tired of chasing the corporate carrot dangling on that stick in front of me and managed to halve my work week, so I will be spending more time doing things that make me happy (hence the username). I am still drawn like a moth to a flame to anything carbon and absolutely abhor that stick on stuff that some seem to think makes things perform better. I have often toyed with the idea of getting back into composites doing custom work for my own projects and perhaps low volume specialty work for people who don’t want to buy a $100 made in China part for their expensive toy. I will enjoy learning about some of the new methods and ideas presented here (never heard of infusion until yesterday) and will share anything I do that might be of interest.
