Oil filled vs. dry vacuum pump

Hi,

I’m looking into buying a new (ebay=used) vacuum pump. There are both oil filled and dry membrane pumps in the size and price range I need. What are the are the pros and cons of the two systems? I’ve read that the oil filled ones can smoke, which would be a show stopper for me. Some of the units available have smoke suppressors attached. Do they work 100 % or will I still need to vent that outside?

Thanks in advance.

no one has any advice? Especially regarding smoke, noise and continuous running.

I think its because theres a lot of information on recommened pumps on here already. Canyon, I think you should make a sticky up for vacuum pumps.

Hojo,

Your post had me scratching my head until I figured out that there are more than just the 18 threads that I could see with my current settings.

In any case, I found the info I was looking for. I will definitely not buy an oil filled unit since my wife would skin me if I filled the house with oil smoke.

I wish everyone a happy and safe new year.

Cheers

It would be a great addition but I’m not knowledgeable enough on pumps to write a sticky on it. If we ended up with a stellar thread on pumps though I would immediately stick that.

However search function, and especially the tag function, do a great job of displaying relevant threads. Datas_Br, it seems like you already have but if you haven’t here’s all the threads tagged with pump.
