Wonder if anyone has any good ideas regarding how to make engine side case protectors for off road bikes? Vac formed plastic seems ideal, but this is low volume stuff, so it doesnt really warrant the tolling costs for vac process.
The tooling could be the part and some added attachment to make a vacuum formed part tool. Maybe some added side filling but not as hard as you think.
Will be making some vac form tools for mudguards we are wanting to do, but side case protectors are for someone else, and they are not willing to pay the cost of proper tooling, and its very difficult to find a vac former willing to use cheaper options.
I work with Cheap A$$e$ all the time. I do inexpensive…no cross that I do cheap A$$ tooling all the time in order to get jobs like this. I also will sometimes do the tooling at my cost If I can duplicate parts and sell them on my own to recoup cost.
They are not cheap asses, just wouldnt be able to sell enough units to make production costs viable.
