I desided that I might end up just using this as my wedding band.
NOW, to get her engagement ring cut and mounted…which no, is not CF. The first one I made was a BIT too small…had to dremel it off…talking about a fun 20min.
Hers will be a Nd:YAG, a laser crystal. shrugs She doesn’t like diamonds.
Cool…but sometimes they have turn peoples hands green or…? Maybe it was the resin used but?
I had been working on perfecting them in the classroom but didn’t have the time to perfect the clear coating and sizing.
Just tell her the CF is more expensive and harder to get than Gold!
I guess congrats on the coming wedding is in order too! After being married to my business I finally made the wedding “jump” on 7/11/97 as she knew the only way I could remember the date is if it was equation of some sort…like my birthdate… month from day = (2 digit year) digit + second digit = the day…rolleyes:
PS: If you limit the photo size or number under the limit, them the photo will show up without clicking on the link. That is one thing I want to fix on here to add bandwidth…
Well, my finger isn’t green yet. I gave her one months ago without problems. I just have to get used to wearing it!!
I can’t figure out how to clearcoat it though!!! Every time I clearcoat anything, it drips and looks like arse.
Maybe do the inside with an ultra thin coat, and THEN do the outside, by holding it off the ground with a paperclip on the inside??
I almost got the machine shop to make me a stepped mandrel for 6 different sizes
as for the photos…i didn’t have ability to resize at the time…just got a work computer. a 600mhz one, with almost NO ability to install ANYTHING!
next time
luckily for both of us…we don’t like gold. Hell, maybe I can get away with a S/S band if she doesn’t go with the CF one I want Ti, but that is impossible to cut off incase of an accident…
Not true. Titanium bands can and have been cut off before. They are not made to the same hardness as aerospace grade titanium. They just cannot be sized or welded. You have to basically buy a new band every time your size changes.
Trust me…My best man is a doctor…I checked before I bought one.
I’ve got several Ti rings. They are great because they absorb your body temp imediatly and are SO light.I also like their metal hue/color.
Ebay has some great ones too+low prices !
…Vinny
I use scrap pre-preg, and just roll it on a release agent coated tube. If I need a specific size, like mine, I vary the tubing by wrapping flashbreaker tape around it, then coat that with release. Then I wrap it with plastic tape (meant for composite work) real tight, and then cook it.
I’m sure the same can be done by wet layup, though the weave/fabric might slide around when compressing it…plus a perforated tape should be used.
CF sleaves would be good bet as well, they might not twist or bunch like rolling CF would.
Experiment, it took me MANY times to even get the tube OFF the mandrel!!! Obviously, you want it to slide right off, so no plastic material on the mandel side, and if you build up the tube for the exact ring size, make sure you don’t build up the CF/epoxy on both sides of the tape build up, or it will lock on the tape buildup! (yeah, I did that…)
hee…might have been on the other side.
Even so, it is hard to see, since prepreg can be cut at the tow, so it blends.
My next try is going to be with uni-dir. prepreg, once I get my sample in.
