Nose Cone Build Thread

As many of you know I have been working on composites for the Formula Hybrid Team I’m a part of. I recently received the nose cone blank and started fiberglassing it.

I’ll be using updating this threads as a sort of log on my progress. This is my first time making a part this large and the first time making an original shape.

I was planning on carving the shape out myself but while I was working on the CAD files our lab was locked down due to an injury indefinitely. Because of that uncertainty I had to get the work done elsewhere so I could make up the time once the lab opened back up.

The nose itself will be made of fiberglass. We had about 10 yards of carbon fiber but we traded it with Formula for 109 yards of fiberglass and a set of Hoosier rain tires.

So far I’ve glued the two sections together, then covered with two layers of fiberglass and one layer of epoxy. By this Saturday I hope to have it mounted on a board and have the final coat of epoxy curing.

Nothing too impressive compared to the work you guys have done but I’m pretty excited since this is one of my first projects that isn’t a test piece.
