hey everyone! New to this site, thank you GGROP for referring me, heres a quick project I did before the temp outside droppeed below freezing…after the snow thaws Im going to finish the carbon dash/console and start on a Mugen aero type widebody.
How are the edges attached to the door?
3M ScotchMount Auto tape
hell yeah! I make ones very simular for the datsun 240z and the 510. Those look awesome. is that 4hs fabric?
yes its 2 layers of 5.5oz 4HS Satin
it looks really good! What manufacturing method did you use?
wet layup, I weighed out the fabric and cloth to get a good ratio. The vinylester and fabric I used were perfect for this kind of project. The resin wets out very well and the fabric is pretty stiff so it’s actually difficult to get the weave to distort.
Looks interesting. Any reason for using that weave style? Aesthetically, it looks a bit weird. And why not just use a heavy plain weave fiberglass layer on the back instead of another layer of carbon to save on unnecessary cost?
I personally use the 4hs fabric for complex shapes. It forms better then twill does. I personally like the weave of the 4hs fabric. A reason might also be that fabric is hard to find these days and that is what was availible
Yeah, the drapeability is useful for complex parts, but doesn’t really help on flat panels. Although with the current rediculous scarcity of carbon fabric, you pretty much have to use whatever is available. That’s why i suggested backing up the panel with fiberglass, to make the carbon last a little longer.
I made these for myself, and kinda splurged on the carbon. I’m actually out of this weave and now have to use 10.9 oz 8 Harness. Its all I have left so when this roll is done I’ll have to usegulpfiberglass.
