nomex source

hi guys, just found you thru the fibreglast forum  where you arent allowed to list shops etc :frowning: im looking at getting nomex for constructing turbo heatshields in a similar manner as this one but using vac bag not prepreg- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7934590893&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT
i think ive found a source for the gold heat reflec but the only source ive found for nomex is fibreglast and its very expensive,i know its not the cheapest stuff in the world but we all know fibreglast isnt the cheapest store either  ,i live in the UK btw…
cheers!

is it really necessary to use nomex on something like this? seems like an awful lot of money to make a part that’s going to be very strong… and support no weight… does nomex really insulate that well?

hey im all ears if someone can show me something else that will stand up to the very high temps  people will pay good money though if i can make the shield im hoping to…

I don’t really see the nomex aiding much in the high temp qualities… what you need to be more concerned about is finding a good high temp resin that will hold up to those temps… I would start by trying to find out what the temperature range of the part needs to be… use a thermometer or something to measure the temp near the turbo… then you’ll have to find a resin that works in that heat range… you could then lay up your part out of carbon and be good to go… not sure why nomex would need to be involved at all

ok,ive seen high temp and flame proof resins  i will try and find out what sort of temps i need to be shielding,i presume the actual carbon can take some very extreme heat and its just the resin that will struggle?
cheers for your help

Can you guys let me know what and where I can find that gold shielding.
