Newbie questions about vacuum bagging and infusion

Hi All,

Complete newbie here.
I’m just getting into the whole composites scene, and have played around a little with simple wet lay-up to wrap items in carbon fibre.

I would now like to move up into using moulds, and to this end I have just purchased a small 3CFM pump and a small trap (I’d like to do infusion at some point).

My question is basically this:
“What is the difference between bagging and infusion?”
“Are there any good bagging and infusion guides I can read through?”

Many thanks.

Hello, read the MTI hose thread, you can find all informations about infusion.

Thank you, have started reading.

Wet bagging:

prewet the fabric, (either by laminating in the mould, or prelaminating, then placing in the mould), then apply bagging consumables (peelply, perf film, bleeder, bag) and apply a vacuum.

Infusion:
place fabrics dry, apply infusion consumables (peelply, perf film, infusion mesh, runner system, bag), apply vacuum, mix resin and let it suck in.

These are the very basics, there are variations on both themes.

Is it being “sucked in”, or is it actually being “blown in”? I bet the physics guys would love this…

To keep it simple I said “sucked in” but actually it is blown in…
