New to the forum

Good Morning,

I am new to the forum and wanted to pop in here and say hello. I have lurked the forum for a little bit and gathered information regarding composite work. I am interested in learning the art and am looking forward to jumping in and learning.

I have zero experience in fiberglass and just as much in carbon fiber but with all of the information I see here I feel comfortable in attempting this as I am looking to learn a new skill. I plan on starting out by making some molds of little parts on my motorcycle and go from there.

Thanks to the admins, mods, and contributors on this amazing site for all the support and information they have provided. It will be because of all of you should I succeed in learning. It’s on me if I fail =)

Welcome to the forum.

I wish you all the best with your plunge into the composites world. I have started with the same idea as yourself, to reproduce some of the small parts of my motorcycle. One tip I can offer at the moment is… try to avoid the parts that have very tight radii(spelling??) to start with, they can be a pain in the butt because of bridging etc. It’s way better to gain some experience and build confidence with some nice easy flat’ish pieces.

Good Luck

Marc

Radii is the correct spelling!

Welcome to the forums

Hello! looks like were at the same stage of learning, i too am starting off with small parts (from my car)
i started a thread detailing my progress at making a part in carbon here: http://www.compositescentral.net/showthread.php?t=4994

other members are giving me good guidance as i go along.

Welcome!!

Thanks for the pleasant welcomes.

I sadly wont be starting out with any of this until all this snow leaves as I have an outdoor shed that I have to do it in due to apparent smell. I’m as rookie as it comes, haha.

I did however find what may be a handy use for an old freezer I have in the basement. Saw plans online to turn it into a vacuum pump, so may try that out see how it works. Best to spend minimal to start when learning and upgrade if I stick with the art. The work these guys do is absolutely amazing and I could only dream of doing some of these things…

Kudos to all those professionals out there for their skill!
