New to Composites

Hi I love cars and thats the reason I have been researching on how to work with fiberglass and carbon fiber. I haven’t taken the jump to actually start working on things. I have different ideas on little things, simple to more complex and well I have never worked with neither of these materials, I’m a very hands on person.

Any recommendations on how to start? I have looked at youtube videos and ehows.

Welcome to the forum, best way I learned was trying something simple and small and learning about different process and material first so you don’t waste to much when you make a mistake.

Yea, after seen some videos seems like the Vacuum bagging works best, and seems kind of cool and in a way faster than doing layer by layer, but haven’t found a video of only fiberglass using vacuum bagging, mainly carbon fiber.
the videos I have found for fiberglass were with wet fiberglass, unlike carbon fiber were the epox is been pulled by the vacuum onto the fiber. Can this be done also with fiberglass? or do I have to add the resin and then suck all the air out and create the pressure?

Vacuum infusion is better than vacuum bagging.

whats the difference?

Vacuum Infusion you have an unlimited amount of time for set up because you lay the fabrics in the mold dry.

There is a lot of useful info here:

Thanks for all the answers and guides. I was looking at some companies for materials and found Kevlar did a search and found comparisons regarding Carbon Fiber, Kevlar and fiber glass.

I would like to do some car body kit, but read that fiberglass would have spider webs with time, of course CF too expensive, what about Kevlar? also polyurethane is said to be better for bumpers, any comments about this? how you make a part out of polyurethane? all i found mentioned foam.
