new to composites...

Hello, I was told about this site from GGROP and it looks pretty cool! I’m looking to do some overlap of my A,B, and C pillars in my car, or possibly making new parts solely out of carbon.

Can you guys lead me to a nice howto, and possibly a list of materials so I can start playing with it or practicing, etc? Thanks in advance!

go to the tutorial section and read up and then ask questions you have that are not covered in there.

Ok I read most of the tutorials…now I just need a few questions answered and a few suggestions.

I want to make my A, B, and C pillar covers into carbon/kevlar and possibly do my headliner as well. The suggestion I need is if its easier to just do an overlay on the plastic pieces or to make a mold from them, and make them out of actual composite ??

From reading the tutorials, I read that the resin doesn’t stick to the plastic and that it’ll fall off if I just use the super 77 stuff. Is it possible to just rough sand the plastic parts and then do a wet lay-up on them?

Thanks in advance for any help!

sand it with 120 grit and wipe down with acetone, wont fall off in a million years

Or drill holes in them so the resin end up as rivets…

great idea

wow never would have thought of that. Thats a good idea.

What products do you guys suggest? I’m thinking to go with the Carbon/Kevlar Red weave, and I just need the brushes and epoxy resin right?

Sorry, but I think it was Ougie or EMI or someone else came up with that one either here on at F/G. But thanks anyway… 8)
