New semi perm release agent

I’m currently using Frekote FMS sealer and WOLO semi permanent release agent now with absolutely no issues. I received a post card from Releasomers the other day and it was saying you can contact them for a free sample of their new release agents. Since I’m always looking for something better and cheaper to use, I filled out the online form. I received an email to contact them via phone and after a brief discussion of my processes, Bill was very happy to send me out a gallon of release agent and a quart of their mold sealer. I will be trying this stuff out this weekend on a brand new plug.

It seems very similar to Frekote’s application instructions…

Releasomers G471 Release:

*G471 can be applied by spray, brush, or wipe.
*If a wax or silicone based release agent has been used previously, remove all traces of previous product using a solvent based cleaner.
*For better results apply two (2) coats – a thin wet film is fine.
*Allow 5 minutes between coats.
*Let cure for a minimum of 10 minutes at room temperature - 5 minutes at 250°F or above.
*Reapply G471 as needed – allow a few minutes to cure, and continue molding.

Releasomers G491 Sealer:

*Apply 1 coat; wait 1 – 5 minutes, or right after the product flashes off, and then lightly wipe/buff off.
*Cure for 20 – 30 minutes.
*Apply 2nd coat if needed following same procedure.
*Like most sealers, best results with a 24 hour cure, but not needed unless your shop calls for that.

He sent me the MSDS sheets as well. Send me a PM with email address if you want the sheets. Hopefully this new release agent works as well or better than the stuff I am currently using. The price is unreal… $66.50 per gallon shipped. That’s pretty dang cheap in my book!

Will post my results next week.

Here is the website if anybody is interested.

There is more than Freekote that works perfect. Ferrokote and Zyvax jump into my mind. Hopefully this is also one of them.

Keep the moulds separated, do not mix systems unless you know exactly what you do. For testing purposes this of course is a big nono.

After a couple of weeks you will be able to judge the performance. (amount used, number of pulls before reappying.

Guys… I know there are more than a few release agents out there that work flawlessly. The purpose of this post wasn’t to say which one was better than the other. I tried alot of different release agents and found Frekote products to work best for me and my applications- but I am always willing to try something else out if it benefits me in any way shape or form. This is simply another brand that is offering samples to anybody that wants to try them out. That’s all.

I received the same free offer from Stoner Inc . After checking out the Releasomers website i had them send me some of the G471 as well .

It was well timed with the 2 small molds that I was just finishing . They sent me a free gallon to try out and after a few pulls , I will post up my thoughts if anyone is interested .

What type of processing are you using? I am currently looking for a good mold release for VARTM and I am unsure where to start.

Since it has arrived I’ve been using the Releasomers G471 with great success . It almost works too well , not to sound like an infomercial pitch man .lol .So far I have made parts with it in :
Infusion with epoxy , also with VE .
Spray up through my external mix gun then hand rollers , also hand wet layup with brushes .
Used it on silicone molds w/silicone vac bag
FG molds w/silicone vac bag
Made reusable vac bags off of it , no curing issues
Made FG mold off of a car hood , zero damage to stock paint
Works decent with standard 3M spray adhesive, better with their ACPS

I was using pva and another water based liquid release before this stuff so I needed to see if it was worth buying more when my free gallon was used up . I’m happy with it and will be buying more at the 65 a gallon I was told it normally costs .I’m about out now . A little bit seems to go a long way , I just mist it on through a dollar sprayer that I picked up from walmart . I will note that bagging tapes won’t stick to it, regardless of how tacky they feel .

Hope that helps

I’d be happy to talk about all of the release options we manufacture, and also more about what you are molding.

Best regards,

Bill

I always wondered what you guys did…big up Q’ville!!!

Here’s a good place to chat about it.

I guess there are many options in releases… not sure what advantage one has over another… If they all do the same job, serve the same purpose, and cost about the same.

I know some are water based vs. solvent. And I guess some vary in their temperature range. But if they work about the same then doesn’t really come down to price and habit/preference?

I did just get a chance to use the freekote 710 LV. Seems to bee good, with a bit less of the odor. We’ll be laying up on those tools shortly but, I’m sure they’ll release just fine.

Agreed, but there are quite a few differences, too. I’d be happy to talk more and discuss further. Right now I’m in Texas visiting customers and prospects. I’d like to chat if and when you’re available.

Yeah, we’ve been in business since 1942. Originally making release products for rubber during the war. We make products to release rubber, urethane, thermoplastic and thermoset resins. Thanks for the message.
