Turbo heatshield. Matt 2K 4 x 4 twill
Lastly the plug cover.
Nicely done there Baz ! Does the clear after spray have a powdered flatner/flattening agent in it ? I like the look of it alot.
Cheers,Vinny
Vinny, its call Acrifan and has a 20% opacity which you can alter up to almost full gloss. The parts shown obviously look better in the flesh. I was asked for this finish by customers wanting a motorsport look with UV protection without the bling look of gloss. So what they want they get lucky people lol.

That matte finish would look awesome for interior car parts as well.
I like the look also.
I take it that is pre-preg that has been baked to cure to withstand high operating temps?
It is vac infusion, no clear gel in the mould as that would be a waste of time. All my moulds are heated so i can heat them so you can hardly touch the parts. The cambelt cover i have on my own car gets pretty damn hot i mean you wouldnt want to keep your hand on it for long and it
s still perfect after almost a year. The heatshields are Thermotec lined. Another company produces similar parts but they have a 2K gloss finish, all the ones i have seen are yellow and not all over but patchy.
The matt coat only needs to be applied very thin and even a dusting coat can be enough. It doesn`t appear to yellow at all.
Looks great in my opinion. Almost replicates dry carbon/prepreg.
I’m personally bored with high gloss myself for smaller parts.
I’ll see what my paint supplier has here stateside and thanks for showing them Baz !

Beautiful parts BaZ. What are you using to hold the dry fabric down without gelcoat? Light mist of 77?
Yes a light mist of 77 and i have also tried 75 which is a repositionable adhesive. The 75 is a finer spray and clearer than the 77. I am still experimenting with the 75 though. When i pull the parts from the moulds a wipe down with white spirit removes any excess 77 then rub down with 400 wet or dry (dont worry you won
t ruin the weave) then finish either matt or gloss.

What resin do you use?
The parts look excellent. What did you use for patterns and moulds?
Infusion epoxy resin from PRF in UK.
jj, the parts were made using the original parts as patterns. The original parts were black mottled tough plastic. I took moulds from these then took glassfibre parts from the moulds and worked them, the heat shield had TURBO
on the top which had to go. I also wanted to make a variation on the cambelt cover hence making two moulds of that piece also. So i was able to keep £160 of original parts to sell on.

is the acrifan UV protected?
