Surfboard fin materials and profile designs here in SOuther California have been so heavily overdone they all tend to look the same after a while.
What have you done here that is referring to “New design” ? The profile appears common. Is it the selection of core ?
Did you use a sprew mold design similar to injection plastics ?
Hello Worldwealth, thanks for your comments! yeah, profile looks sames, but we do have over 42 different profiles. main purpose of this new design is to test new material design on its performance regarding damping and stiffness. it sounds like you are also in watersports area, may i ask u to PM me so that we may be able to discuss more issues on this areas? Cheers Robert
Im not tooled up for any watersports goodies currently or plan to. But both my boys surf competitively at times and I’ve gleaned a lot from that exposure mainly.
I have been drawing up some theory on a new surfboard form though. But it will still end up using fins.
Robert,
I like the grid pattern. I only use FCS base fins.
I´m coming from widsurf wave riding.
The sail introduce a lateral forcé that sometimes produce “spin out” (flow loose on the fin)
To avoid / reduce it, a not too stiff fin is welcomed. I’m not sure if can it pay for surfboards.
By the way, the profile is a bit narrower. Not so wide base compared to height.
Here, the good makers used G10 plate + CNC + sanding. My favourite maker is TFC / Tarifa Fin Company, you can visit their site.
(Always speaking about windsurfing)
