I want to build frp tooling for making a pair of mirors for sportbikes. The miror housing is really no big deal as it’s just a dished simple shape.
The ideas i’m hunting around for are; how to integrate a swivel from the miror stem to the housing and attach that swivel to a carbon fiber tube (stem). I’d like the stem to have an aero wing like shape to it but that idea is not set in stone. Aircraft tubing supply companies sell that aero shaped tubing. so i could make a mold off of that if needed. Also on the bottom end of the stem, where it attaches to the motorcycle it needs a pivot and a mount.
My idea on that end of the stem is machine a part from aluminum that has a diameter the same as the inner diameter of the c/f stem. That part would have say a 60 degree turn in the middle of it and at the other end of the part would be another diameter say about 3/8" that swivels inside a clamping base. The base would have two holes in it for mounting it to the motorcycle. Again this idea is not set in stone but it is how the oem mfg’s do it.
Where would i purchase the proper pivot for the miror end? … preferably a ball type pivot so the miror gets a decent range of motion but won’t move once positioned by the user or some pivot that gives a good range of front to back and up and down movement. and to top it all off… preferably that pivot will have a hole thru it so i can run wires thru it.
